MEncoder and its ignorant ways

I'm frustrated and need the help of my fellow Linux geeks. I'm running a Mandrake 9.1 system and want to get MEncoder to build with mp3 support so that I can toy around with AcidRip. I already had a previous beta version of MPlayer and MEncoder RPMs installed from the initial installation of Mandrake, but wanting to run the most current stable version I first compiled and make'd (made?) lame, and then the same with MPlayer. Now, during MPlayer's ./configure it did see the lame install, but MEncoder simply will not configure with mp3 support.

Is there something that I'm missing here, like a configure flag or something, to get this to work? Should I not have compiled over the RPMs? What more does a guy have to do to get it to work?

Thanks in advance for the brain-picking.

mp3 support in mencoder shouldn't be that difficult, and compiling is a good idea certainly. make sure you have lame-devel installed if you're on rpms for that, or have installed correctly from source. you need to have a file called libmp3lame.so in a location like /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib. if that file is there then mencoder should pick it up no probelm at all.

go acidrip! new version out soon i hope...

Apparently the previously-installed RPMs were the problem. I removed both the mencode and mplayer RPMs, and recompiled the mplayer source. All is well.
