Memory Efficiency

So I'm kind of new to Linux, or maybe it's fact that there is just so much to learn... at any rate, I'm running Red Hat 9.0 on a 233 with 172 MBs of RAM so naturally memory is something I have to keep an eye on. I have found a huge loss of memory once entering and leaving Gnome. Obviously there's something still loaded in memory from Gnome, does anyone have any suggestions?

This is normal and a asked question/concern all the time. Linux uses memory effeciently, it may fill up and stay in memory when its not even being used.

The only time you should be concerned is if you see some thrashing going on, maybe your swap spaced being used up, etc.

Try searching the forums as this is asked all the time, literally, too much it seems at times.

Memory Efficiency

Ok, thanks a bunch. I'm just so used to watching my Windows crawl along with so little RAM after being up for so long. Old habbits die hard I guess. Thanks.
