Media Server Solutions Questions.
Good Evening,
Let me begin, by asking the mods, that if this is in the wrong forum to accept my humblest apologies, and to move it where it needs to go. I've been searching for hours on the solution to my issue and figured I would just ask a direct question and get answers tailored to my situation.
Ok, so I have recently made the jump from Windows, and am loving it with the exception of one thing. I am a media serving addict, and cannot find a simple solution that allows me to stream my media to my televisions like my windows machines did with ease.
Here is the setup. I have a 'server' in my office that, when windows was on it, streamed my media to my PS3, and a WDTV live in my bedroom using PS3Media Server. With the exception of times my girlfriend would acquire 1080p movies, we never had choppy playback....or any issues of any kind.
I installed PS3media server on the same computer(an old Gateway 509ge with minor mods), got all the necessary add-ons, and on my ps3 it played just fine, but it would not find media on my WDTV, and when it finally did, playback was choppy. The WDTV is wireless, and the PS3 is wired. However, when this was a windows machine, it could stream to both without any issues.
So, given my setup, and limitations, and having seen this very computer handle the job when windows was installed...What are my options to get back to being able to watch my media on both streaming devices? I have searched, and I have gained a lot of valuable information, but I haven't seen anything specific to this setup, and I would really appreciate any help anyone could give me.
So what we have now is: Gateway 509ge running Xubuntu 12.10, with PS3 Media Server. It is able to stream to a wired PS3, but not to a wireless WDTV live(side note: I just hooked up the WDTV live to the wire the PS3 was on, and still no dice with playback). This computer is going to be strictly for streaming and downloading media, so I am not locked into Xubuntu, or PS3 media server, I just want it to be able to do what it did before I swapped to Linux. I am sure a lot of you will say that it doesn't have the specs, but I have seen this machine stream anything I have thrown at it, so I know it isn't a lack of hardware.
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
