You've to install a descent player first. I highly recommend mplayer:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/news.html
it plays basically... everything: mp3, avi, divx, mpg, mov, DVD/VCD, etc.
good luck!

mplayer, mozilla plugin
yeah...you want to get mplayer and the mozilla plugin for mplayer installed.
http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/
This will probably be easiest to do if you have apt-get or yum installed to resolve any dependencies.

hmmm, I'm not sure if I totally understand your question, but tar is a compressed file, just like zip or rar. Take a look here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=45094
To see how to uncompress and install programs in Linux.

Mr Megaman
sir while extracting this file, it is giving this sort of error.
tar : This does not look like a tar archive
tar : skipping to next header
tar : Archive contains obsolescent base -64 headers
tar : Error exit delayed from previous error.
what to do ?

download page for mozilla mplayer-plugin
Strange....I am able to click the link in the post and get to that webpage
Here is another link, directly to the dowload page:
http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/download.html
There is an .rpm file there for Red Hat 9, as well as source code
If you still can't get into that webpage, just do a Google search for (Mozilla mplayer plugin) and you should find some pages to download an .rpm file.
