MDK Command to set an IRQ?

Hi all,

Need forum help. With my Omnibook 800CT everything runs great with Mandrake9.2 except sound. After reading many many forums and testing Mandrake & PC, concluded that the sound board (ESS1888) requires IRQ=5. I have the Alsa module ready to modprobe but the PCMCIA/PCI combo takes the IRQ=5 early in the boot process and I never get sound. I also can not get a modprobe of the Alsa module accepted for the same reason.

So, the question for the experts is....

What file, process, or sequence can I kedit to have the sound boot first and the PCI/PCMCIA boot second?

Many thanks to anyone who can offer a way to do that!

Edit: Also tried Knoppix with the same result.
