mdadm -r removes disk

Hi experts,

I have a running custom linux 2.6.32.52 version.
My mdadm version is 3.1.4.
Whenever I remove my disk from RAID 1 array, my disk is removed from system. But my disk is successfully removed from the array.

#/sbin/mdadm --manage --set-faulty <md> <disk>
#/sbin/mdadm -r

#ls /dev/sdb
ls: /dev/sdb: No such file or directory

Is this expected ?

Thanks,
Saleem

Are you doing raid on the whole drive instead of partitions?

No. I am doing RAID with the disk partitions only.

Check the log for messages about the disk.
