mbr over write, not bootdisk can not boot into linux

hey guys,
i have a problem here. recently my sis reinstall my window without telling me first.then the problem come. my mbr were over write and i can't boot into my linux. cause i did not create a backup bootdisk. i'm using Linux7.2. last night, i try my friend's bootdisk linux8.0. but can not.
i modify the "sysconfig.cfg file" the hda1(by default) to hda3 since my linux partition is in hda3. but still can not. i did try for hda1,2,and4 but the result is still the same.

i know there was a way to create bootdisk from the CD(installer) but the bootdisk which i created is the bootdisk that boot to install linux not to boot into linux. see the different.

so is anyone of you still using Linux7.2?can you create a bootdisk for me? or where can i find this bootdisk?
is other version's bootdisk compatible for example Linux8.0?

thankx,
mch

Try booting directly from the 7.2 install disc, it should from there you should be able to get into rescue mode. I believe there are instructions on the disc and on RedHat's site.

cd boot

Boot with CD, enter in maintenance mode .(rescue or something like that)

view your /etc/lilo.conf

see if reflect your system settings

if yes enter the command lilo

if not modify your lilo.conf to reflect your system settings

enter the rescue mode. oh i see. because as far as i do is i always enter "linux" when we need to select for which mode.
(and this lead me to the installation mode, right? not the rescue mode)

i dont't quite understand what you mean with this sentence.:o

thanks for your help.
i will try it out and let you guy know the result ASAP.
