Maya 7 Ubuntu Linux Render Window Prob

For some reason in maya 7 when i render just a single frame with the render window the image only appears at the very bottom left hand corner. I tried to move the image by panning it but then it dissapears. This is on the latest version ubuntu linux.

This also seems to happen in the visor window. The folders names containing paint fx or fluid examples dont show up properly. Only the bottom few show. Its a bit hard to explain.

What can i do?
