I've tried to run maya in linux, using wine, and just in case the graphics part was throwing it off, with cedega as well. Neither would load. If you looking for a 3d program, I would refer you to http://www.blender3d.org It is exteremly powerful, and once you get the hang of the non-standard interface, you can work very rapidly, due to the enourmous amount of hotkeys.

I agree. Blender is extremely good, and unless you plan to get deep into non-linear animation, it can do just about anything Maya can do. Plus, it's free.

I know about blender but I thought if maya works with wine I will use the huge number of tutorials out there and of course the big community but thanks anyway .

Blender has a huge number of tutorials and a massive community also. www.elysiun.com ;). It might still be worth a try to get it on ur computer, I have trouble getting almost anything to work with wine so...

Yeah, Blender rocks. But I would recommend another program for low polygon modelling: Wings3D. It is a perfect complement to Blender.
