Matrox Dual VGA extended display setup, Arch.

I'm trying to set up an extended display with two monitors, but I can only get cloned.
Could someone please set me in the right direction.

Info:

The card I'm using (from physically reading it) is a 'Matrox MGI g45 + ma16dlxb' (searching for 'matrox 971-0301' also works).

'lspci | grep VGA' returns the result 'Matrox. . MGA G400/G450.'

The most relevant driver I could find in the Arch Linux repositories was 'xf86-video-mga version 1.5.0-1.'

A quick search would suggest I need to manually configure X. I don't have a xorg.conf, and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ contains '10-evdev.conf' and '10-quirks.conf.'
I tried copying and changing some 10-monitor.conf's for other cards/setups, but no luck.

Is the configuring X what I need to be looking at? Or maybe a driver problem?
Any instructions or direction would be greatly appreciated.

This is the fun with Archlinux abit of DIY.
The Archwiki can help you with this https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Configuring

I'm learning a bit, having fun, and it's amazingly good procrastination for exams.

I'm stuck at the moment tho. I've got a feeling it's the driver.

More info:

After making multiple /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-display.conf files, it will either clone or abort with error 'AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 1' (Which isn't as easy to google as '. . for diver 0').

'xrandr -q' only reports one monitor.

'lspci -vv' gives back 'Matrox . . MGA G400/G450. . Subsystem: Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd. Millennium G450 Single Head LX.'

Replaced the 'mga' driver with the 'vesa' driver. This only output to one screen, no matter what configs I tried.

Found this one http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/pr...eries/g450pci/ but this is a dualhead version, however i think this is a more recent card.
Are you bound to PCI or can you also use AGP/PCI-e on your mobo? or if you are stuck on PCI how about Nvidia it is still availably, type: GeForce 8 8400GS PCI this one can do dual screen it has vga/dvi and hdmi and cost about US$ 40,- pretty easy to setup with nvidia drivers, blacklist nouveau on Arch first!

All drivers I've found so far are for X11R6, which sounds like its not compatible with X11?

As for getting another video card, I've had a quick look at the national auction site but there isn't much going for cheap right now. I'll keep an eye on it tho.
I don't NEED a dual screen setup, but it would be nice. It's just kind of fun/interesting trying to get it to work.
