Matlab Registration

I'm having a bit of trouble registering Matlab.

Code:

Error 1,714: Unable to activate your machine. The activation process cannot detect a valid Host ID which utilizes a currently supported naming convention. Please refer to the following solution ID, to help resolve this issue: 1-661QJD
I guess it uses hardware data from eth0 to authenticate. No eth0, no autication. Stupid.

I ran in to this solution years ago because I had the ethernet module compiled in to the kernel. The problem now is that udev now uses the screwed up naming convention so my ethernet interface name is enp5s0.
I know I can just revert to the old convention (instructions on doing this below), but at this point I've already set up quite a lot of config files based on this configuration and I'd rather not change it. Is there a way I could symbolicly link the name eth0 to it instead?

do you 100 % need Matlab ?
if not install Octave
however Octave is missing support for proprietary code like outputing to an AVI

Don't get me wrong I use octave 99% of the time, but I'm more accustomed to scripting and plotting in matlab.

then use a computer with a always ON and always connected internet connection when using matlab
as in plug in the eth to the laptop

welcome to the world of P.O.S. DRM

No the eth0 interface doesn't have to be connected. It doesn't even have to be up. It just has to exist.
Unfortunately My laptop is my only computer. I can't afford to buy a desktop just to run matlab.
I suppose I'm just going to have to revert to the old naming convention and hope I don't screw up too much.
