mass mailing software

Hi Linux User,
I am developing a web site(using php and mysql) which I would like to have a section to include "mass mailing of newsletter to my customer". Can anyone provide me some suggestion and openion of how can I go about to do it. What open source can I use ? Can it be used in Linux and window clients ?

Duno about software but make sure that it does confirmed opt in, i.e. when someone enters an email address to be addred to the list _one_ email is sent to that address asking if it is ok to send a newsletter to that address and bulk mail is not confimed until the person replys or clicks on a link in the please-confirm email.

An unsubscribe option which actually works would be a good idea too.

What I need is a webbase database which can keep all mailling address. I can select the target group and send the newsletter.

did you ever find an answer to your question?
I have the need to send emails to a list in a text file (tab-separated) and would like to use a redhat server to send the mails out one by one to all the addresses in the list...
