marking bad sectors in linux

I have a 2.1 GB IDE drive and have noticed some bad sectors. I know Windows/DOS will mark bad sectors with SCANDISK. However, I'm not
sure if this will be done when I make new partition with cfdisk So my question now is whether any partitioning utility in linux will do a full scan and mark the bad sectors on any given partition. Thanks!!

ps. i'm new to linux so don't assume i know too much, i do know how to use dos so im picking it up quick but i don't know some of the commands
