Map WXP user to Linux user in Samba?
Hi,
I did do the RTFM part :), and probably I looked over it after searching for 1 hour, but what I am looking for is the following: I have a pre-installed Windows computer, with just one user named Owner (with empty password). The user of this computer has an account userX on the linux box. When trying to do smbpasswd -a Owner, I enter no password, I get the error that no appropriate linux user has been found, which I understand. But neither this Windows computer can be reinstalled, nor is it a viable option to change the linux username. What I am looking for is a way to add a few shares for this user, with RW access and are being accessed/edited under the userX permissions in Linux, WITHOUT the user having to enter stuff in a password box in windows. I am pretty much a noob at samba, so maybe there is an easier way than I am trying, so I appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks :) |
If it is XP Pro, you just have to enter the userX/pw combo once on the client machine and check the box so it will save. It won't ask again. Microsoft removed the save login checkbox in XP Home, because they're Microsoft.
