Mandy 10.1 "issues"

I've just installed Mandrake 10.1 and i seem to be having some problems. First off, Xmms doesn't wanna work. Something isnt' right with the OSS sound and i have to use a diffrent one but i really don't want to becuase then it interfers with other sound events. Amarok has some issues with being very choppy with mp3;s over a network that i can't figure out as well. Gernalery just seems to not run music as smooth as Xmms did at one time. Also, the screensavers under KDE don't want to run eather, i can preview them ok but they don't excutte durring the time, just gives a blank screen. Any thoughts?

try switching the Sound under the preferences from OSS to ALSA. I had to do this with 10.0 to get it to work properly.

oss is dated and you are better off configuring your audio applications to use alsa.

if they are a openGL based and you don't have your drivers properly configured, that may be the cause.

ok, I am also having problems with 10.1 CE and xmms playing mp3s. I have tried a lot of tricks only to find that they didn't help. I have installed the lame plugin for xmms, and that didn't help. My sound card is alsa based, I have tried the alsa driver and the OSS driver, neither of which did any difference. I have tried the alsa driver with the xmms alsa plugin (with the mp3 input plug in selected) and that didn't work. It pops up a message saying to check settings, or maybe another bit of software is using the sound card at the moment. (conflicting software?) the only luck I have had with getting sound to come out of xmms is switching to the oss-only drivers, and that makes the mp3 play a one second chug-a-chug-a-chug, over and over again. I get no sound with amarok when I use it, and it crashes when I run the mp3. The Mandrake CD player works perfectly.

Any help here?
