MandrivaLinux 2006 - Kaffeine; not able to play DVD's

I'm running Mandriva 2006, and trying to play a DVD on kaffeine, but it refuses to play.
I click on "play", shows DVD and title, second later, it says "stop"
With a few RPM files, I was able to play it through mandrakelinux 10.1.

I had similar problems with playing DVDs. My son actually found the answer for me and the thread is on one of the LQ forums. Do a search for posts with the user name of Jerrodg, and read the thread named "Totem with Mandriva 2006". The final resolution involved using Kaffiene, and the instructions for getting the proper packages are on that thread.

you might want also to look into MPlayer or Xine, They're a bit more popular, and (from what I have seen) easier to configure.

You could be missing libdvdcss. You need to go to http://easyurpmi.zarb.org and setup the PLF repos. After that go to the MCC software installation tool and seach for libdvdcss. You may also find updated xine and kaffeine packages as well as win32 codecs from the PLF repo.

Kaffeine is a frontend for xine.

Didn't know that, but I don't really use most KDE apps.

Thanks for all your help. I went and I believe I installed that stuff you mentioned, in that link.
I went to install libdvdcss, and some other files.
It kept stopping after hitting play.
It would just refuse to go on.
Then I thought, hm... reboot? Sure enough, it works now.
That's one of hundred problems solved
Sorry to tell ya, but I still have a small list of problems, but I gotta say, this is better than mandrake when viewing DVD's.
I didn't have the graphic card update installed, never knew how. so the best was windowed for watching DVD's, and the image wasn't crystal clear.
This on mandriva, full screen, smooth, and sharp!
Thanks again!
