I am a happy user of Mandriva Linux and I now want to install Apache for a home site.
I have the Apache source code but no compiler. Obviously, with no compiler, I need a binary release of a compiler. After much searching I have failed to identify what I need and any help/pointers to a specific compiler that will do the job would be much appreciated.
Alternatively a binery release of Apache would be an option but I believe that this would be less flexible. Again, advice pointers gratefully received
Many thanks
You can install Apache using the Package Manager in the Mandriva Control Centre (mcc) or via the Install/Remove software under applications in the menu. To the left of the package manager it may say 'Packages with GUI' drop the box down and select 'All' then in the search box type Apache.
Distribution: PCLinuxOS2023 CentOS7.9 + 50+ other Linux OS, for test only.

Welcome to LQ.
The seach function, packages : urpmq <package>
So just do # urpmq gcc
.....and # urpmq apache
Installing : # urpmi <package>
The 'main' package index holds 41 x "apache....."
and the "contrib" index : 187 packages, so all funtions
should be available without compiling.
Examples are from Mandriva 2009.
.....
For the very quick and complete replies.
I have followed your advice and installed from the control centre and everything seemed to download OK, at least no errors were reported.
I am sorry to be such an amateur but now I can not find the files to try and start the programme. I have searched using HPPDT and Apache but no "exe" files found.
Do you happen to know the default path that Mandriva creates?
I am hopeful that this will be my last "complete newbie" question.
You can start it via the Mandriva Control Centre (mcc)--> System--> Manage system services by enabling or disabling them or start a konsole session. Switch to root by typing su then enter your root password. Now type service httpd start. Type exit to leave root mode.
