mandriva 2007 spring gconf-root locked

I am new to Mandriva 2007 spring. I turned my system on after loggin the screen is black. A few items on the desk top the only thing that will open is firefox. System, places, applications not on screen. When the screen loaded I received about 20 errors all for gconf lock. some thing to do with GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you
need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system
crash. (Details - 1: IOR file
'/tmp/gconfd-dkr/lock/ior' not opened successfully, no gconfd located: No such file or
directory 2: IOR file '/tmp/gconfd-dkr/lock/ior' not opened successfully, no gconfd
located: No such file or directory)
If you can help me and it requires getting to a terminal please tell me how as well, nothing works right now.

This is now the second forum this is posted in please help

Same problem with Red Hat Enterprise 5

I am having the same problem when I log in with my personal profile on my machine.

However, I do not get this problem when I log on as root.

When logged on as root I looked under both /tmp/gconfd-e352682/ (gconfd folder for my personal profile) and /tmp/gconfd-root/. What I noticed was that the file /lock/ior was present under root but not my personal profile.

Thinking that this was the cause of the problem I copied and pasted the lock folder and ior file into /tmp/gconfd-e352682. However, this did not correct the problem.

I wonder if there is some daemon that needs to be enable to run TCP/IP networking for ORBit?

Help anyone?

know one answered me. so I just reloaded Mandriva and changed con fig files using easy rpm. I have had know problems since. If you can log in as root you can change the file name to old root or something it should create a new config at reboot. That is what I read when I googled the problem. I was not that lucky
