Mandrake Linux & Xp Boot
 
hi i need to know how to boot linux mandrake 8 and xp i want both on my computer the last time i did it i had rh9 and xp and it worked fine now i tried mandrake and xp it deleted the xp partition and my shared folder partition i went through the install and chose xpert install and i installed it on the 25gig part that i made for it . it installed but did not give me a choice on what os to boot i also know that wen you install mdke linux it sets the other partitions inactive. anything will help thanks in advanced

It DELETED your Xp partition? Or just didn't give you the opportunity to add it to your boot slections? If your XP partition is still there, add this at the bottom of your lilo.conf in /etc:

other = /dev/hd(your XP partition - i.e. /dev/hda1)
label = WindowsXP

Then run "/sbin/lilo". If your XP partition is a goner or if you made an error as to where it was when you entered the additions to lilo.conf you will probably get an error. If MDK overwrote your XP partition table you are outta luck -- there are safeguards to protect your existing os instalations when installing Mandrake, but as always when working with valued disk data you need to be careful and know where it is so that you can prevent disaster.
