Mandrake/Cedega questions
Hi All,
Ok, I'm totally new to Linux, have not even dl'd a version yet (however, I do have some little itty bitty experiance with QNX, so I guess that something!!...lol). Anyhow, I think I am going to go with Mandrake 10.1, as it seems the easiest to install and autodetects most things etc etc. My questions are: 1, I have 4 partitions on my 80G drive, one of 20G which I want to use for Linux. Will Mandrake auto install to this without problems, or is it risking anything. The partition is Fat32. 2, I want to run games from Linux, so I think I need Cedega. Does this just install to my Mandrake partition as an add-on, or is it something else entirely. I've tried reading everything I could find, but that question I have not found an answer for yet. Many thanks in advance for any help for this Linux virgin. Scorp. |
You will have to paritition the 20GB part. for /boot, /root, and if you want /(you). Also not FAT32, ext3 or ReiserFS. You can download cedega rpm from their website, it's not free.

Thanks ctkroeker. I appreciate the reply.
I understand the /boot I think, as Linux would need a boot sector separate from Windoze. I think I understand that the /root would be like the O/S partition/sector, like C: in Windoze. However, what is the /you? Is it a 'partition' to put my files? I guess I will find out later, but if it's important, I would like to know beforehand. Also, will Mandrake have the necessary tools to do all this directly on the Windows partitioned drive, or will I need to 'format' that section of the drive separately using some other tool? Thanks for any and all help, and sorry for sounding such a :newbie: , but I have to start somewhere... Scorp. |
