Mandrake 9.x hangs before installing bootloader
I tried the Mandrake 9.1 RC 2 installation the other day and got the following problems:
1) Selecting Swedish language causes my USB mouse to stop moving within a few seconds. English worked okay though. 2) When the installation was about to prepare installation for a boot loader (I think it said something like "Preparing / loading boot loader"), it just hanged. I waited for several minutes and no sign of activity. 3) I tried the text based install and it didn't lock up on me, but X failed to install and configure properly. I then tried the last non-beta Mandrake, 9.0, and that one hangs too at exactly the same place as 9.1 RC 2. (2) is really the show stopper here. I think if that problem goes away, the rest of the installation may have a shot at working. I would welcome any ideas on finding out the cause. I have an AMD Athlon XP 1900, Microsoft USB intellimouse, GeForce 4, SB Audigy. Best Regards. |
mandrake v9.1 RC1
I have almost the identical problem. Mine hangs just after successfully installing the bootloader. I get an invaid subroutine ::main. When I reboot the machine it boots the the command line error free but X doesn't work (or hasn't fully loaded?) Xf86config 'ed the hell out of it with no luck. KDE doesn't work either. I am a Linux newbie, so what the hell do I know! Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? My errors happen at the end of installing disk 3. I have wiped and reinstalled four times..... same thing. I swapped video cards no luck.
My test box: QDI BrillianX-1S (BX board, slot 1) P3-500, 512MB, Fujitsu 20G, Generic TNT2 16MB, 3Com 10/100, Adaptec 2940 SCSI. Help? Opinions? Gripes? Thanks! |
Mine locks up too, right after installing the boot loader it asks if i I want to look for updates. It completely freezes whether I say yes or no. If I try and reboot, The first time I got into X but a service wasnt running, and the second time it just says "no more instructions for this runlevel"
