Mandrake 9.1 recognising RAID 1 array

Hi All

Right, the good old ASUS A7N8X motherboard, athlon 2600 with 512mb of ram. Trying to do a graphical install and it cannot recognise the Silicon 3112 RAID chip so says there arent any drives. After reading through the archives I find out if you skip to text mode instead of graphical mode, it can quite happily find the controller and lo and behold my discs, which it doesnt bother to allow me to partition.

In fact it says, you dont have a mirrored set, theyre just two sets of disks and builds a partition table and filesystem on one of them automatically. Now is this building of one set of partitions on one disk a way of acknowledging the mirrored disks or is it just that it builds itself on one disk only and thats how it works?

I have downloaded a gentoo distrib, the latest 1.4 distrib i believe and that seems to say that there are two drives as well and which would i like to partition.

How do I proceed with setting up these disks as RAID array. Given I have set them up as mirrored discs in the controller already?

phil
