Mandrake 9.1 and DVD troubles (Xine and MPlayer)

I have installed both Xine and MPlayer on my Mandrake 9.1 system. I have a GeForce 3 TI200 (I have the NVidia drivers install not the generic drivers) video card and a Sony DVD ROM. The issue is when I have play a DVD on either player displays a black screen but I can hear the sound from the DVD. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Have you gotten mplayer from plf? If not, you'll want to go to http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon and add the sources for "plf" and upgrade mplayer/xine. Instructions are included on how to add the sources and explained well. keep us posted if it worked or not ;)

Looks like it is already installed.

I got the message below:

/pub/mandrake/9.1/i586/Mandrake/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz
medium "main" already exists

Any other ideas?

Thanks

The source you need to add is "plf," not main. ;) (It's listed under "3) External add-ons:" )

Hey Shelby.

To be honest I haven't had much luck with Xine or Mplayer.

The version of Xine that comes with SuSE Linux 8.2 Professional crashes just after it loads and logs me out, and I cannot, for some reason, installer a newer version.

Mplayer, well if I could get it to play DVD's great, but I can't.

OGLE is the only one I think is worth trying. (Correct me if I'm wrong people).
But I can't use that because Mplayer is a complete ....

Well everytime I try and uninstall Mplayer and install OGLE, things get kinda messy.

If you don't have Mplayer installed, use OGLE!

(For now I'm using Cyberlink PowerDVD through Wine, and it isn't fast enough :'( )

Thanks Guys

I am having problems with Xine also. Sometimes the audio works and sometimes it doesn't, so I know the config must be right sometimes ;-). I am trying to install mplayer and am having a heck of a time. I went to PLF and followed the directions ( I clicked all the options), but at the end of the install I get the message:
retrieving description file of "mirrors.usc.edu_"...
retrieving source hdlist (or synthesis) of "mirrors.usc.edu_"...
ftp://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/dist...esis.hdlist.cz
ftp://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/dist...esis.hdlist.cz
ftp://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/dist...base/hdlist.cz
retrieve of source hdlist (or synthesis) failed
no hdlist file found for medium "mirrors.usc.edu_"
examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.mirrors.usc.edu_.cz]
problem reading synthesis file of medium "mirrors.usc.edu_"
unable to update medium "mirrors.usc.edu_"

I have no idea what all that means, but I know I have no mplayer. I tried the website download - the package install failed. I am a member of the Mandrake Club and tried the urpmi there with no success. Similar message and I tried 3 different mirrors.
Any ideas??
TIA
Dick
