First open a terminal and type in:
which kppp
to find out whether kppp is installed or not. If kppp, or any other package you need, is missing you can install that package without doing a reinstall.

Hm, at least I can help with the volume control: run
aumix
from a terminal, and you should get some controls. You can also use this directly from the terminal. Look at the man page.

Thank Stefan
Have just installed Mandrake Version 9.1 as an upgrade from Version 9 that was fully operational.Sound KPPP CD player.
On first reboot it had saved my Desktop confifuration ,but NO Sound or KPPP or CDPlayer would work.
I intend to reinstall Version 9 and wait till version 10 appears.
Version 9.1 is a dead loss
Expert LINUX installer

Aha, you made an UPGRADE you say? I tried that too at first (from 9.0), but then really NOTHING worked, so I had to make a full install.
