Question Mandrake 9.0 - Pentium2/400Mhz

Hi there,
I wonder if someone else had the same problem and if it's fixable...
I wanted to try a Mandrake 9.0 install on a Pentium 2 - 400Mhz computer, but the installation crashes while installing the packages; where can be the problem? HD, CDROM, ??? does there exists a fix for it? I tried several installs with different ISOs for the installation CDs...
The very same CDs I used to install it on a AMD 1.4 Ghz, and there it works!!!
What can I do to install Linux on this P2 400???
Should I try an older version? Where could I download it?

Thanks a lot for answering

can you define "crashes" a bit better? depending on where you've got to you may be able to switch to a different console which may contain errors. press alt and F1 to F6

Try changing your CD drive. I've had this problem many times and 80% of the time, it's the drive or a corrupted CD. Being that the CD worked on another install, I'd guess thats not you issue.

I've used CD drives that could read everything but the Linux CD's. Drives that support RockRidge extentions are necessary, but I'd be very suprised if you ever ran into a drive that didn't support it.

so, sorry for the delay, I didn't had enough time to try out more before...
the crashes happens at different moments while the installation of the packages (after the selection) and message is in the detailed view, for example nearly:

could not install lilo-22.3.2-5mdk.i586
choices are:
"continue anyway" / "cancel or exit installation"

in one of the alt-F1 to F6 it was:

set_theme
#(should be a square)...propagated

another (Alt-F2 I think):

no screen capture before...(didn't wrote it) is installed

I tried also with 3 different CD-drives (Samsung DVD-16x; plexwriter 40/12/40A;and MTRP 52x) with the same results.

Could it be possible that Mandrake 9.0 didn't works on a P2?

So I tried one last time, just to write the error messages correctly. and IT WORKED!
you know, sometimes you just don't must try to understand what happens inside a computer... just try and try again...
it's quite slower on the P2-400 Mhz than on the K7-1400Mhz, but... yes, I'd be surprised if it wasn't so.

Thanks a lot for the answers, sorry for disturbing, it's just bizarre when something freezes without any reason, and works afterwards (without any reason more...)

NB. it was the 21st installation try on the computer...

The unexplained are scariest in two different area,...UFO's and computers.

Hope it's a permanent fix.
