Mandrake 9.0 glibc update to v2.3

I want to add glibc v2.3 to my Mandrake 9.0 system in order to use filmgimp, which requires it. Currently, only glibc v2.2 is installed. It seems that glibc is not your typical RPM, however, considering that it is pretty much the core of the running GNU system. Consequently, I would want to update it only in failsafe single user mode (i.e. no GNU or X Windows running).

However, I have found scant documentation on how, in detail, to do the update and what pitfalls, problems, incompatibilities, etc. to expect. Please advise.

An update: when testing glibc v2.3 for dependencies and/or conflicts, the following appears:

error: failed dependencies:

initscripts < 6.91-18mdk conflicts with glibc-2.3.1-10mdk

Again, can find nothing anywhere further documenting this. Is this saying that glibc 2.3 needs to be installed from single user mode (which I already assumed) and the initscripts will automatically update, does it mean some other files also need to be updated, or is glibc 2.3 simply not installable on my system. Please advise.
