Mandrake 8.2 on Toshiba Tecra 550CDT
:newbie:
I'm attempting to install Mandrake 8.2 on my Laptop (4G hard drive, 1 partition, 1 swap), but every time I attempt, I receive an error of some sort. I have no automatic package selector, and I can only install individual files via the flat view. The few times I've managed to get to 100% install (due to the error on Commercial Apps Disc 2, my system freezes) I receive an error message. I attempted text install, with minimal installation, but I received a message that nothing was selected. I managed to get an old Corel Linux OS from 2000 installed, but it is grainy, slow and not able to access any of my peripheral hardware, like CD-ROM, Sound Card, etc. Should I give up on Mandrake, or can anyone tell me how to get it to install? |
My guess would be your cd-rom drive can't read CDRs.
Or certain ones. It happens. You could get the boxed version. They're not CDRs, btw. Or you could burn the iso's again using another proggy. |
I am. I went out and spent the $100 on the Mandrake 8.2 Powerpack box.
I could get an old Debian based Corel Linux up and running, but I either can't get RPMs up and going, or DrakX isn't working properly on the Toshiba BIOS. |
