Mandrake 8.2 Install. lnx4win.img???

Hi,
While trying to install Mandrake 8.2 onto Win98 with the 1st disc I got an error: "Could not find kernel image: lnx4win"

With a brief wait the install continues then pops up another: "CDROM disc does not seem to be a Mandrake Linux installation CDROM. Retry with another disc."

Could this mean that the copy I was given is corrupt or missing a file? Answers appreciated.

AMD 450
400MB RAM
20gig

Thanks,
Wheelz

There is a high probability the cd is wrong.

Wheelz 04-11-2002 04:15 AM

Crappy disc

Thanks Mara

The vendor mailed me a replacement "Disc1" which works OK but with another problem downstream. Ref. new post. "Mandrake 8.2 Auto alocation?"

Regards
Pete

I am having the same problem where i get the message
"Could not find kernel image: lnx4win"

I downloaded disc images from the mandrake site.

Any ideas?

amishrobot,
Unfortunately I don't have an answer!! All I did was try installing it again (about 5 times) and for some wierd reason it worked???
Wish I could help.

lnx4win.img is an image to install Linux on Windows partition (under Windows). Is it what you'd like to do?

Yes, and during the install process I hit F1, then type lnx4win (like it says in the readme file), but i get that error everytime.

lnx4win

I got a Mandrake ISO from linuxiso.com (well, a mirror) and the lnx4win stuff isnt on it...

could it be the image they give out doesnt have this, and they want you to buy it to get this stuff?

Use linuxiso.org its much better than the .com :)

try this

hi,

i have found if you boot from the cd press f1 and type linux expert

then when the install program wants to know how you want to set your hard disk up select a windows partition and from the buttons on the left select use for loopback

and the rest is pretty simple

i have done it loads of times like this, just remember to create a boot disk and put it in a safe place. some times when windows messes up and you have to reinstall, windows may write over the bootloader.

have fun
