Mandrake 8.1, Toshiba Satellite 2800/100, CD-ROM troubles

I have a Toshiba Satellite 2800/100 with DVD-ROM player. I try to use the DVD-ROM player to read my CD-ROMs but I get read errors all the time. These CDs are perfectly readable on other linux machines with the same version of linux.

What's going on ?

Is there a way to get this working ?

Many thanks.
