Mandrake 8.1 Installation

I am attempting to install Mandrake 8.1 on my system. I have a HP CR-Writer 9510 as the master drive on the secondary IDE channel. When I boot from the installation CD all goes well to the first screen, I depress enter and the next screen is the;
"Welcome to Mandrake Linux (8.1) Sep 25 2001 13.43:00"

There is a message block that reads;

"Please wait
Trying to access a CDROM disc (drive Hewlett-Packard CD-Writter Plus 9500)"

The system hangs at this point.

Any suggestions????

Thanks for any help..

This is probably a stupid suggestion but have you tried putting a readable CD in the drive?
