Smile Mandrake 8.1 5610modem install

Garry Galanti Mandrake 8.1 modem install & HardDrake Control Center freeze on initial installation. Over 10 years I have put together 6 boxes (one that has never crashed). This Mandrake 8.1 install is on a Soyo Bd K7Via, AMD Athon 600, USRob full hardware modem 5610A. I feel that I have to unfreeze the hardware control center phase before I jump into the modem die. Though I purchased the powerpack, the harddrake team wants me to purchase advise units. ??? Has anyone else had the Control Center freezeup problem? Since I don't want to make any experimental moves, solid moves is what I want to move on. (a reinstall with a different harddrive didn't make any difference & my SIS 32meg Video card is recognized) gg
