I have a Micron PC with a small SCSI hard drive which is full. I added a 13 GB hard drive (as IDE secondary slave; CD ROM is master)onto which I have insalled Mandrake 7.2.
After the install, I had to make a floppy disk to boot (Wouldn't boot from LILO). During the boot process, I seems to detect all the drives and hardware until I get to

VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly
change_root: old root has d_count=1
Trying to unmountold root .... okay
Freeing unused kernel memory: 128k freed
INIT: version 2.78 booting

Enter runlevel:

If I enter a value (say 5) here, i get a message

INIT: Entering runlevel: 5
INIT: no more processes at left in this runlevel and the pc just hangs.

Sorry this is long... any help would be appreciated.

SCSI and IDE Harddisks

Maybe its the BIOS or maybe I am an idiot.. but I have NEVER been able to get IDE and SCSI harddrives working together in the same box. Not with ANY operating system.
