Mandrake 10 X11 using xdmcp over network disconnecting

I use Cygwin with XDMCP to connect to my Mandrake 10 laptop. All connects and operates fine initially (using the KDM desktop manager) however if I do anything intensive on the laptop remotely (over X11) the X11 connect freezes and dies and also takes down my network connection to the laptop. What causes this? The laptop is a AMD K6-2 533 with a 10/100Mb pcmcia ethernet card, I've tried XDM and MDKKDM too and the same issue occurs.

Try using some other client and see if the problem persists, e.g evaluation version of winAxe or xwin32 etc.
