Mandrake 10 Wine is crashing

My recent install of Mandrake 10 is working fine except I can't get Wine to do anything but cause a black screen (monitor power light goes yellow) and total system lockup. The RPM's installed fine and all components are in the applications menu. I made sure everything was in the proper directory and even changed screen resolution in both the Wine config file and the desktop. I had to do that manually as the configurator also crashes the machine. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Dave

Maybe something was broken somewhere somehow? Once after I had been doing some stuff(Just stuff ) my updatedb was causing a total system lockup.

Try making sure you have the latest wine version - winex afaik doesn't work (might have just been my machine) but wine does:

As root type and follow instructions (make sure you've removed the old install of wine first):

urpmi wine

Mandrake 10 has a buggy kernel, apparently. There have been a lot of problems reported with it.

Have you tried using the 2.4 kernel instead of the 2.6 one.

Thanks for the suggestions. How do I go about changing from 2. 6 to 2.4 kernel. I'm pretty new to Linux.
Thanks again!

If you have less than 1GB ram, in the terminal type:
Code:
urpmi kernel-2.4.25.2mdk
If you have 1GB or more, type:
Code:
urpmi kernel-enterprise-2.4.25.2mdk
This will give you the last stable version of 2.4. You might want to check Lilo to make sure it updated with the new kernel. Reboot, select the 2.4.25.2 kernel, you're good to go.

By the way, I install Wine, then WineSetupTK, then XWine. I then proceed to open XWine, go to Wine Configuration, Click WineSetupTK, and let it use the default choices. Then Wine works perfectly. Fresh install of Mandrake 10 that is. :-)
