Mandrake 10 distorted video

I just installed Mandrake 10, and I'm having problems logging in. Shortly after I select it from the bootloader, the video gets all distorted. Everything is VERY big, and pixelated. It seems to be in 256 colors, but its almost impossible to read. I had this problem before with my redhat system, and I don't remember how to fix it. It seems to always happen once I reinstall linux. I think it has something to do with the video card or monitor I selected? How can I adjust those settings or fix this problem?

Thanks
John

I'd hate to revive an old topic, but the problem described here is the EXACT one I have. After plenty of frustration, I plugged in my VIVO wires and connected it to my TV. It shows up absolutely perfect on the TV while being royally screwed on my monitor, but since it's a TV everything is too blurred and inconvenient for normal use. I've gone through many configurations, in and out of the GUI to no avail. My monitor is not on the list, and remains messed up with generic settings and set to similar monitors. My video card is a GeForce FX 5950U and my monitor is a MAG 986FS (19-inch). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS- If my post-count didn't say it, I'm a Linux-noob. (Though I have plenty of experience in other OSes.)
