mandrake 10.2LE nvidia geforce fx5200 krnl2.6.111-12mdk

i downloaded the nvidia v7676 driver for linux, and i soon found out it didnt work as advertised. it should have built the module for my kernel, but it didnt. i had to supply --kernel-source-path /usr/src/linux --kernel-include-path /usr/src/linux/include --kernel-name 2.6.11-12mdk on the cmdline for it to even compile the module. on top of that, the module doesnt even work. /usr/src/linux is a symlink to /usr/src/linux-2.6.11-12mdk
modprobe nvidia returns /lib/modules/2.6.11-12mdk/kernel/video/nvidia.ko: invalid module format
not only is it just the nvidia module, it also affects another module i tried 2 install, cant remember what it was tho. same message returned. when i exec startx, it returns (EE) Module nvidia cannot be loaded
i also tried upgrading to 2.6.12.5 with no luck either, and it also boke a some things i liked
please help me

When I was using Mandriva, one of the things I had to do in order for my nvidia driver to work was install the kernel headers or rather the kernel source from my disk. Once this was done the nvidia drivers installed flawlessly.

Most people usually forget that the kernel source must be installed for the nvidia drivers to install correctly, this has been the case with every distro I have used.

Hope this helps.

On 2006 beta, the drivers work fine. Just make sure that your kernel and kernel source package match before trying to install the driver.

i figured out what the problem was, i think. i had the correct kernel source package installed, but i also had the _stripped_ kernel source package installed. all i did was to uninstall both packages and install just the kernel-source package. i didnt even have to supply an args to the installer. it just worked. full 3d acceleration and everything
