making Fedora Live CD have persistent data

Hi group,

My laptop is broken and I can only boot Linux using root ramfs.
I would like to modify the boot to call a bash script after the root
file system has been mounted. In the old days, this could be done after
the pivot_root during booting. Now there is a new bloted systemd
processes. I need a better understanding of the systemd process or
a quick hints from someone that understand where to modify. I am
using Fedora 22 on a USB stick, which works great except any
modifications are lost on reboot. This includes all network mods, user
data for broswer, etc.

My plan is to call a bash script that would:
  • mount LABEL=/UserLocate
  • list files on that partition and link them to root FS
After the links, modifications will be saved on the UserLocal partition.
This will include passwd, home, network, etc.

So my question is, where in systemd is the root file system modified?

Thanks for your time.

I'll ask a dumb question. Why don't you make a proper normal install to the usb?

Almost every modern distro uses a usb like a normal hard drive.

That is not q stupid question. My problem is I am using my old laptop which has a problem with the USB interface, it is flackly. Working sometime and not working other times. Right now it is working with a Fedora 22 live CD on a flash drive, but if I stress the USB interface, it will freeze the system.

I would like the network data along with other user data to be saved to be used at next boot. This will put a small load on the USB support.

My new laptop is available for pick now, so it is not critical to resolve this issue but I would like to know how anyway. So I can't mark this post as "Solved' yet.

You'd put the casper file on the flash drive. When one makes a persistent usb like we'd find at www.pendrivelinux.com you'd have some creator app usually. It would set some boot paramaters so that a persistent file is created and attached to the system. I'd assume it would work but never did it. Since the live usb has generally the same squashed file that a live cd has the only changes are what the creator apps do.
