Making an old Debian box a firewall

Hi everyone.
I have an old faithful 166MHz Pentium, running Debian Linux in it. I'd like to make it an firewall for my own computer. And yes The comp has 2 network cards, both installed. And please, dont say me change the Debian to smoothwall

The question: What software do I need to do this?

  • iptables (to do the address translation, you probably already have this)
  • dhcp (the server, you probably will want to do this)
  • some kind of DNS server (maybe you want to serve DNS from the firewall to the other machine, I recommend maradns)

You'll also need to do some other network reconfiguration, like setting "net/ipv4/ip_forward=1" in /etc/sysctl.conf .
