Making a slideshow

Every year I make a slide show for my outfit. This slide show is just a bunch of pictures put together with music. I used windows with a program we bought but the computer crashed and we lost the software that went on it. Im asking what software is offered on linux to do this kind thing. Ive done several googles but have come up empty.

I dont care if I have to right script files. also the movie needs to be able to be played on different computers under different oss

Any help would be appreciated.

yeah thats not exactly what Im looking for I want to make a avi out of the pictures with music with it, Any way I found a tool that I will play with called mjpeg-tools and mainactor, any way thanx for the response.

I do this with mencoder. Hard to figure out, but worth it. Encode to mpeg1 and it plays anywhere. I ditched the divx varieties.
