make test not working

i read in a tutorial on LQ that you can type make test after make to see if anything is set when installing form source. When i type make test t his is the line i get:

make: *** No rule to make target `test'. Stop.

Well, not all programs you install from source have a make test, check the README or INSTALL files of the application your installing to see whether or not if they've included valid tests for the application.
