make modules_install ?

When I run the command make modules_install will this just add to my previous directory the contains modules, or will this delete the previous directory, and install only the current ones in my .config?

It deletes /lib/modules/2.6.0/kernel and /lib/modules/2.6.0/build recreates them and copies the modules over. If you have other modules or third party modules not in those directories then it will not delete them.

On some distro's, you may need to run "modules-update" after "make modules_install" so the startup scripts will look for the new modules.

While "make modules_install" won't overwrite third-party modules, you may need to reinstall those modules if the kernel configuration has changed significantly.

Also, it goes to /lib/modules/VERSION, so if its a different kernel version, you don't have to worry at all.
