make modules fails?
I am trying to compile the 2.6 kernel. the bzImage compiles fine. When I run the command make modules I get this output then it just stops

Building modules, stage 2.

Apparently, the 2.6 kernel requires a new set of module-init-tools, which you can obtain from

See the How to Upgrade to the 2.6 Kernel feature at (scroll down the feedback comments for post on module-init tools).

I've only played with compiling the 2.6 test kernel, and avoided the modules issue by compiling everything into the kernel, so my advice is quite limited.

you dont need to do a "make modules". if you followed the output of 'make", you would have noticed the modules being made there.
so, in 2.6, you only have to do "make".
follow the "make" by a "make modules_install" as root, copy stuff to the right places, edit lilo/grub, and ur set.
