Unhappy make install error with XFree86

After a successfull "make World", I ran "make install".

Unfortunatly, I had errors :
gcc: ../../lib/font/fontbase.o : No such file or directory
gcc: ../../lib/font/libfontbase.a : No such file or directory

I use a Debian Woody mini iso distribution.
I don't in wich package I can find these files.

Somebody should help Me please !!!

I had the same problem, but solved it by running 'make' in the lib/font directory. This creates the two files that are missing up to that point. Then just cd back to the xc root directory and run 'make install' again.

In case you happen to come to the next obstacle as I did:
'make install' also needs files './exports/bin/xcursorgen' and './exports/bin/mkfontdir' which at that point of the make process do not exist. The source of these can be found in ./programs/xcursorgen and ./programs/mkfontdir respectively. Again, just cd to these directories and run 'make'. Then go back and run 'make install' again. That should be it.

Currently I'm building or attempting to build Gnome2.2 on Red Hat 8.

I downloaded the X430src-1.tgz to X430src-7.tgz files and attempted to install XFree86. I wasn't successful on my first attempt.

In fact, I tried seven times before I got XFree86version 4.3 source correctly installed.

It needed zlib, zlib-devel, ncurses, ncurses-devel, libpng, and libpng-devel.

I also upgraded my glibc library from Redhat's ftp site.

make World > World.log 2>&1
make install > install.log

Now I'm stuck with libgnomecanvas- ....that's another story
