Make file error (recipe?)

I'm running Slackware 13.37 64 on an HP dv2945 laptop. (AMD Turion 2X) I have 32 multilibs installed and GCC 32 compat libs.

I am trying to install Allegro 4.2.2. I run the configure file and I don't seem to get an error. But the last few lines state

config.status: creating include/allegro/platform/alunixac.h
config.status: executing default commands
makefile:413: *** recipe commences before first target. Stop.
makefile:413: *** recipe commences before first target. Stop.

The when I run the make file I get...
bash-4.1# make
makefile:413: *** recipe commences before first target. Stop.

From what I can make out of my searches there is something wrong in the make file but based on the read out matching the last lines in the configure action I'm guessing the conflict is being taken from the configure file.

Thanks in advance for any input
Ace

Hmmm.
Syntax error in the Makefile, most likely. If you have Makefile.in & configure.ac and stuff like that, try saving off your Makefile, and your configure script. then with them safely out of the way, cd into that top source directory and run
xmkmf -a

which might remake the files It's worth a shot.

Well never did get it corrected but found a different version that worked. Found a compressed version that installed without needing compiling. Working great so far.

You could have used the SlackBuild:

For future internet searchers,... I got this because there was a stray space after a "\" indicating a line continuation.
So:
Code:
LISTOFFILES=dir1/filea \
            dir2/fileb \HIDDENSPACE
            filec
