Make few apps work with alsa at the same time

I have configured ALSA as the output module for few of my apps, but somehow they do not work simultaneously (i.e. I cannot launch mplayer while audacious is working)

I want them to.

My hardware:
Code:
# lspci | grep -i audio
00:06.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)
07:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc Device aa08
Audacious is configured to use
Code:
HDA nVidia: ALC833 Analog (hw0.0)
Mixer card: HDA nVidia
Mixer device: PCM
Mplayer:
Code:
device: hw=0.0
Mixer: default
Mixer channel: PCM
DE is xfce4
