Make and make install?

(KDE3.5 on Mandriva)
Trying to install some software. Just completed ./configure after adding alot of missing stuff. When told to start with make and make install im told that "make" is not a valid command or missing. What to do?
Thanx

You might have to be root to do that command.

In superuser mode, I would suggest to start with the configuration again.

I have tried that. I have used:

su -c ./configure

By the way. Thanx for a lightning fast reply.

Try locating the "make" program.
Code:
which make
whereis make
locate make
It should be in /bin, /usr/bin, or some other standard location for programs.

You should also have installed a package called "make", which is usually GNU make utility.
Check this in your package manager.

Also try
Code:
man make
man gmake
and tell us if that gives you any results, as the man pages are probably part of the installation package.

Make

Yes, I fond the missing package "Make". But when running it I still get a page full of errors. Is it any easier way to install software that I downloaded. It is usually files enging with .tar or .tar.gz

I have to say that I normally look for .rpm packages to install. You have less choices when installing, but the steps are quite a bit more simple. You can search the web for different .rpm package for the software you want.
