if you remember the partition sizes and types (which you probably don't), you could try deleting the large partition and putting it back exactly the way it was without formatting anything. no os really likes this, but from my experience i think it's the only way to save your system. next time you want to install an operating system that doesn't ask what it should do (like redhat, mandrake, windows, macos x, etc), back up important files first.
