Major Installation Mess
I hope someone can help me - I just mucked up my hard drive.

I have been using a dual OS system - WinME and RH 8.0 - and I decided to upgrade to RH 9.0. The installation got to the partitioning section, gave a warning that it could not find my partition table, and then the computer suddenly rebooted.

Except when it rebooted, there was a single partition labelled as unknown format.

Is there anyway to restore my files?

if you remember the partition sizes and types (which you probably don't), you could try deleting the large partition and putting it back exactly the way it was without formatting anything. no os really likes this, but from my experience i think it's the only way to save your system. next time you want to install an operating system that doesn't ask what it should do (like redhat, mandrake, windows, macos x, etc), back up important files first.
