Major Gnome Desktop Problems

Hi everyone. Wonder if anyone can help as I am having major problems with my desktop. I recently installed Ximian Desktop 2 on my laptop - big mistake! I can't get rid of the damn thing now. Everything was okay upto this morning when I updated RH 9.0 using Red Carpet - have been using it recently as the Up2date has been unable to connect to RH due to too many connected. After the update this morning I can only log into Ximians gnome. I do not even get the option to load into anything else. It seems Ximian have completely updated my logon screen so that I can't boot into anything else bu gnome and theirs at that. I can't uninstall it due to its dependancies. Can anyone help me and advise what to edit or do? Thanks guys.

you need to edit your $HOME/.Xclients or you /etc/X11/xinit/Xclients
oh, but with RedHat it is just a shell script to look in a file and load whatever is there.
and that file is /etc/sysconfig/desktop i _think_
or alternatively you could just rip out ur Xclients and put in

#/bin/bash
startkde

or whatever you want to use.
chances are Ximian have overwritten it anyway so it doesn't really matter

You can still log in if you choose sessions from the logon screen. You can choose KDE or whatever else.

Ximian Desktop2 replaces your default GNOME completely (it says so in the FAQ) and the only way to really get rid of it is to reinstall due to dependency hell. You could possibly try and get it to work but would probably take as much time as reinstalling.

You can change your gdm screen to whatever you want. It's under the GNOME control panel as Login Screen.
