Major disaster partitioning my hard drive
Hello everyone,
tonight I was trying to install Suse on my computer and it gave me an error when I tried to format the partitions on the hard drive and formatting was not done on the hard drives. I aborted installation and started windows again. I have an external USB hard drive and I didn't realize it was on during installation, this is where I have all my important information stored. Even though formatting didn't take place it did delete the partition of my external hard drive. Now I see the hard drive as "unallocated space" and I don't want to format it because I would obviously delete everything. I'm pretty sure a lot of the data (if not everything) is still there, but for some reason the whole hard drive appears as unallocated. Does anyone out there know of any software to get my data back? I'm really desperate and I don't know what to do. I hope you can help, Thanks |
If it was a fat partition use getdataback [trial downloadable]
A good tool for recovering lost files and partitions . Other tools pcinspector, zero assumption recovery Cheers Z |
why don't you try a live cd distribution like Knoppix. It should see your hard drive and allows you to move your file to a secure location.

There aren't a lot of programs good enough for this level of data recovery. If it's that important, I'd recommend paying for professional data mining / recovery services.

I tried getdababack and turned out to be a great product, not only it recovered the partition along with all the files I had, but it also found files that were deleted(by me) long time ago......it took a good 2 hours to scan a 80GB hard drive, but if any of you get in this problem I suggest you give getdaback a try.
Here's the link to download a trial edition http://www.runtime.org/ |
I just realized there was a typo in my last thread, the program is called "getdataback". I thought i would just clarify this.
